Meet Our Orthodontist

Dr. Iris Hanna Vardy

Nestled in the heart of Manhattan's Upper West Side sits a beautiful brownstone; its 118 years of history is colorful and rich. In fact, when Dr. Iris Vardy was looking to expand her orthodontic practice in 1996, the impressive yet warm antiquity of 130 West 78th Street home (New York Times, Habitats Section May 26, 1996), called out to her. Ever since, her practice has flourished. Considering that the American Museum of Natural History and the sprawling green grounds of Central Park are within a short walking distance, families passing by quickly became accustomed to the smiling "Vardy Orthodontics" logo swinging from the building's facade.

The classic and comfortable feel of Dr. Vardy's office truly encompasses the meaning behind her practice: providing successful orthodontic treatment in a tremendously warm and caring environment; allowing every patient to feel like a member of her immediate family.

Years of dedication and commitment allowed her to establish the ideal/successful practice she operates today. Knowing she would pay for her education on her own, Dr. Vardy took advantage of SUNY Albany's excellent reputation and affordable tuition. This was very helpful in allowing her to accept a place amongst only twenty-five students accepted into Harvard School of Dental Medicine. She also studied dentistry at New York University College of Dentistry and completed her Post-Doctoral Training in Orthodontics there.

In 1993, Dr. Vardy was chosen "by a committee of orthodontists" to receive the Ron Lorber Achievement Award; an award that was given to her based on her exceptional level of "skill, commitment and energy". It was through her limitless enthusiasm and passion that helped fuel her involvement with not only her community, but the global community as well. Whether it was penning a column in the Upper West Side Neighborhood Gazette about the importance of oral care for adults and children, volunteering as a dentist for the First District Dental Society's Skate Safe program in Harlem, traversing Africa providing dental care for the impoverished, caring for athletes at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics, or simply educating children at the Beth Jacob-Beth Miriam School about 'good dental hygiene practices', Dr. Vardy's passion for her profession continues to thrive - with never a sign of fatigue in sight! In February '03, Dr. Vardy was scrutinized by a prestigious and nationally-recognized panel of orthodontists who agreed that she upholds the highest level of standards both in her diagnostic abilities and her treatment results. Following this examination, she was awarded entry into the Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Since her office is close in proximity to both the Jewish Community Center (JCC) and P.S.87, Dr. Vardy is an easily recognized face in the neighborhood! With yoga classes at the JCC, bicycling in Central Park with her three children in tow, picking up goodies at the Fairway Fresh air market, her sense of community is completely in tune. By donating both her time and funds at P.S.87's annual auctions, Dr. Vardy is able to give back to a neighborhood whose families have entrusted her to provide them with the highest level of orthodontic care.
